Get off your soapbox and into your life.

I know that I’m going to get a lot of hate for this but it needs to be said and a lot of people, including myself, need a kick to the teeth from the foot of reality. Never settle. And never try to justify settling. There are a lot of pride movements going on now that quite frankly need reality checks. Examples? Welfare pride. Fat pride. Unemployment pride. Slut pride. And yes- sexual orientation and/or gender orientation pride.

People. You should never be ashamed of who you are but you should never be proud of your shortcomings, of conditions be them physical, economical, or mental that you have the power to change and improve yourself by over-coming. No one should be bullied for any reason, but with this ‘pride’ mentality, I’m seeing the ‘victims’ becoming bullies.

Welfare pride. Okay. We all need help time and again. There is no shame in taking a hand up when you’re down. But turning that hand up into a hand out is just wrong. Expecting that as a means of support is just wrong. People take jobs where and when they can to pay the taxes that pay for welfare. It’s great when people actually need it but when I wake up at 5:30am every morning or my sister goes to work for three separate jobs just to make out end meet and a portion of that goes to someone that breeds for a living or takes disability because they believe that they are entitled to it because they weigh four hundred pounds- we got a problem. Especially when that same person waddles into wal*mart, takes a motor cart to get their hungry man microwaveable dishes and leaves a senior citizen who can barely walk or an actual disabled individual standing at the door or limping painfully through the aisles to get their groceries.

If you are heavy set, don’t be ashamed of it but don’t wave it around like a banner either and don’t become the bully that you are afraid of. Just about every person I have met that boasts about their large figure turns around and blasts people who are thin or athletic. For one- just like there are conditions that can lead to weight gain there are conditions that can lead to weight loss. I have a friend that can eat a large pizza and loose two pounds. It hurts just as much when people say that you are too skinny as when someone says that you are too fat. As for athletic people? Don’t demonized them either ! They work very hard to be athletic and healthy. It’s so easy to tell yourself that you can have just two slices of pizza because you walked to work. It takes a lot of will power to turn it down and eat a salad instead. It would be so easy to lay down for a nap after work. To walk to the gym and lift weights takes motivation and a lot of will power. So does dealing with the aches and stiffness the day after a long workout. I myself am between athletic and over weight and it’s very difficult because I get crap from both sides. I’m too fat. I’m spending too much time trying to conform to society’s ideal girl. Screw the both of you. I work out and eat the way I do because I know being over-weight is unhealthy. I don’t like what I see in the mirror and if I don’t look like I can care for my own well-being, what gives me the right to look for a guy who does?

And then you got the people waving around sex and sexuality. Guess what people- biology is “homophobic”. Nature is “homophobic”. Anything outside of the union of a man and woman is unnatural and until the lgbt (qxyzp?) community -bullied- and -threatened- the experts and society as a whole into thinking otherwise- it was considered a reversible mental condition. Biology agrees from both an evolutionary standpoint and a creationist standpoint. If there was ever a gay gene it would have died out due to natural selection. By Darwin’s standards it would be a bad gene. Evolution depends on reproduction to further and strengthen a species. A gene that makes a population not want to reproduce would die out quickly because that population would not breed enough to continue that gene. Secondly, you are born with one part or the other. You can’t pick it. Frogs and fish can and do but only to ensure that they can reproduce if there is a shortage of one gender and they don’t need a doctor to do it. That is nature. Creationists believe in God and God does not make anyone incapable of resisting temptation. You don’t have some supernatural force making you have sex with someone- that is a choice. And thanks to the human genome project we know that biology begrudgingly agrees. Now we have experts in the field declaring pedophilla as a legitimate orientation that should be welcomed as well. Where do we stop?

Honestly, if you are saving yourself, you’re labeled as a prude. People look at you like you have lobsters crawling out of your ears if you say that you’ve never even thought about having sex. If you say that you don’t want to look at porn or refuse to read romance novels, you are apparently ‘immature’. If you’re a virgin, you’re a loser. If you don’t put out, you can’t expect to be in a relationship for more than a few weeks. If you say that you are proud to be straight, you are labeled a ‘homophobe’ or ‘closed minded’ because you won’t at least try to play around. And that’s okay because it’s politically incorrect to be pure or straight.

The bottom line here is that if you are happy with the choices you make for yourself- that’s fine. If you want to be gay or pretend that you’re a different gender than what biology says you are- that’s your right to do so. If you are happy with being a large person, that’s wonderful. If you are happy doing nothing all day long- that’s great. But the moment you start putting other people down and attacking the rights of other people- that’s a problem.

I don’t see straight people out on the streets with sex toys running around nude or nearly nude with black and white flags flying overhead, demanding a month of celebration because they choose to have sex a certain way. I don’t see people with jobs out saying that society owes them. They understand that if you don’t work, you don’t eat. I don’t see actual business people out laughing at those without jobs- in fact most that are well off donate to help those who are less fortunate because they are in a position to help.

If you choose to be gay, don’t force people that you know are opposed to that behavior to accept and embrace it. YOU accept and embrace it. Go to those that are like minded and enjoy their company. Don’t go looking to point fingers and scream at people who you know won’t agree. Christians don’t go running into the gay districts  to force you to build a church there. And honestly, the “Christians” (and other religions, it’s not limited to just one faith) that bully and harass homosexuals are often scolded for it -by other Christians-. Hell, if I see someone from my church putting anyone down for any reason, I will be the first to get in their face about it. But you want to keep the church out of the bedroom? Keep your bedroom out of the church. Of -multiple religions-. (Honestly, props to the Jews, Christians, and Catholics for being tolerant. Try having a gay ‘marriage’ in a mosque and see what happens.) Don’t force us to change  who -we- are and what -we-  believe to accommodate who you want to be.

If you feel that your weight is fine as it is- then that’s great! Be proud of who you are. But don’t turn around and put down a girl who you feel is too skinny. Don’t call people that go to the gym “muscle-heads” or start lecturing about the lack of nutritional content of a salad when someone declines a pizza. If you want to sit on your backside and do nothing all day, that’s your right to do so, but don’t demand that people who are actually out and working start paying for you to do so. You’ll only make the problem worse. There’s only so many people who can provide jobs. When you pick their pockets, they’re going to make up their losses by picking the pockets of their employees.

In all- if you want to be proud. Be proud. But don’t force other people to be proud of you too. If you need approval from someone else to feel good about yourself, then you might want to re-think why that is and make some changes.
