The assumption that Christians are supposed to 'turn the other cheek'...

Is taken way out of context. Most people that quote the Bible have never even read the book. Anything can be taken out of context and used to argue against something. There’s a lot of conversations in the Bible, there’s a lot of quoted words from bad people. It’s true that they said it, but what they said was not true.

Christians are not called to sit on their hands, whimper, close their eyes, and play in their own little corner. We are called to be the salt of the earth. Salt preserves, salt keeps the yeast from expanding too far and ruining the bread, salt adds flavor, salt melts the ice. We’re also called to be the lights of the world. Ever notice how even a tiny little match can light up a dark room when the light goes out?  What good is salt if you never add it to the bread or a match if it’s never lit?

And no where in the Bible does it say “thou shalt not havith an attitude". Yes, we are called to love and be kind, but we’re also called to be honest and firm. We’re called to put on the armor of God and take up the sword of the spirit. Christians are warriors in a spiritual battle, defenders to those that are weak in their faith, and guiding lights to the lost. So many have forgotten that because they’re letting the world define what we’re supposed to be rather than letting God define what we are.

To my atheist/agnostic/spiritual friends out there- the Bible tells us to love you guys too. No where does it command anyone to hate anyone for any reason.

/small personal rant.
