Reasons are not excuses.

“I support ____________ because I know a lot of people that __________ and I don’t want to believe that what they’re doing is wrong.”

Worst excuse ever. Knowing someone that’s living a sinful lifestyle, doing something harmful to their body, openly sinning, or hurting other people doesn’t make what they’re doing right. In fact, supporting their bad behavior is perhaps the absolute worst thing you can do- and the most selfish. Supporting a sin, bad behavior, destructive attitudes is done because -we- are afraid of losing them as a friend. -We- are afraid of them judging us. -We- are afraid of being seen as judgemental.

In a nutshell, we are more afraid of their opinions or the loss of their respect than we are for their well being. Telling the truth of the matter is sometimes very, very difficult and yes, you might lose friends. But if you knew someone who’s preference was to run around in traffic, would it really be the most loving thing to ignore that because that’s their choice? That’s what makes them feel happy? Just a thought from a very good convo with my mother.
