This is a friendly reminder that the monster design in FFIX was not only fucking amazing, but that there wasn’t a single palette swap in the entire game. This is also a friendly reminder that FFIX is sorely underrated.
YES. Even years later I’m blown away by the personality and imagination poured into every design in IX, especially compared to the relative sterility of monsters in most other RPG’s. More recent FF’s have retained only a little of this mad whimsy.
I wanted to do a review of IX enemies on Bogleech and this post already contains half my planned list.
FF 9 is the best in the series in my opinion. It’s an actual fantasy, the characters are all lovable, and you get a satisfying ending without having to get a crappy sequel to explain the writer’s bs. >8
